Reading Review

The Reading Review Packet (below) includes word cards for "sight words" that we see often in text. You may print, cut them out, and practice reading, or read them straight from your device.

The first half of materials are for Week 1. The second half are for Week 2.

For reading each day, please do the following:

1. Review the sound spelling and read the words on the "rainbow charts" (I'm sorry these are not in color). Please see the video (below) on How to Read a          Rainbow Chart.

2. Read one of the passages/short stories. Choose the one that is the best fit for you. Below you will find a document that explains how to find a "just right"          reading passage (this may also be used for books).  Start with Day 1, the next day do Day 2, etc.  **The passages that say Day 1-5 are extra.

  • Start with a one minute timed read. Record how many words you read in one minute.
  • Answer the questions about the story. Go back to the story to find and underline text evidence!
  • Read the story again for one minute, and record how many words you read in one minute.

Math Review

These math worksheets (below) are for extra practice of skills that have already been taught. They are the same as the paper packet that some of you picked up at school. If you can, please first complete the Zearn lesson each day (see the calendar) before completing the worksheet for the same skill. Be sure to watch the videos (see below) on how to log in and use Zearn.

No one is expected to complete all of the worksheets. Each skill has 2-3 pages. Please choose the one that you think is the best fit for you. **The first page is a multiplication game. Use a pencil and a paperclip for the spinner.

For fluency practice, you may print the flashcards (below), make your own, or simply say the answers aloud while looking at them on your device.  Fraction war is played with another player. Split the deck in half. Each player plays a card down and the larger fraction wins both cards. The player who gets all the cards wins.

Writing Review

The Writing Review Packet (below) includes two pages of grammar skill review. There are also several journal prompt questions to choose from. Please choose the ones that most interest you, or make up your own question to write about! You don't have to finish one each day. Also, feel free to use your own paper. Be sure to use your best handwriting with spaces between words. Remember to use complete sentences, which include:

  • Capital at the beginning, for the word "I," and for proper nouns (see What Gets a Capital pdf below)
  • Punctuation at the end of each sentence: period, question mark, or exclamation mark
  • Subject: who or what the sentence is about
  • Predicate: the action, what the subject does or is
  • They should also make sense!

If you wish to type a final draft of your journal entry, go for it! You may even email it to me if you'd like. J
