Course Description
Dear Parents and Guardians,
This week’s packet includes learning materials for the week of April 20-24. These materials are also posted on your student’s teacher’s Google Classroom and teacher website. The Oregon Department of Education has directed us to provide third grade students with one hour of academic work per day in the core subjects of reading, math, and writing only (one hour total). In next week’s packet, we plan to include additional resources and activity ideas that you and your student may choose to use. For this week and future weeks, feel free to continue to use Mystery Science, virtual field trips, and other science/social studies links that were posted on your teacher’s website. Your student may also keep working on the previous review packet and Zearn lessons.
In the packet, you will see a printed slideshow for each subject (reading, math, writing). Each slideshow includes your student’s assignments for each day of the week. Think of these as your calendars. These slideshows are also posted in your student’s Google Classroom. When you go into Google Classroom, click on “Classwork” at the top. Please start by clicking on the slideshow for each subject: reading, math, and writing (they say “START HERE!!!”). Each slideshow includes all of the links to lesson videos and assignments that your student will need.
Please have your student complete the math exit tickets, reading questions, and type their writing in Google Classroom (the links to these are in the slideshows in Google Classroom). This is how students will “turn in” their work so that we can see what they have learned and completed. For the other assignments, such as math worksheets, please do your best to check your student’s work, encourage them to check their own, or feel free to take a picture of it and email it to their teacher.
Your student will also be using Zearn for math and Wonders for reading (the links are in the slideshows as well as on our teacher websites). The worksheets that go with the Zearn lessons are in this packet. We included copies of parts of the reading stories/texts so that your student can underline/highlight their text evidence to help them answer the questions. Please make sure they first read or listen to the entire story from the Wonders website.
We plan to stick with the same format for packets and Google Classroom from now until the end of the school year, and will only make minor changes if necessary. Please be sure to check your email regularly for updates. We emailed short videos on how to use Google Classroom and Wonders. As always, please email your student’s teacher if you have any questions. We are here for you and want to help. Thank you so much for all that you are doing to support your child’s learning during this time.
Kindly,
Ms. Cacan, Mrs. Dickson, Mrs. Dodge, Ms. Redford
